This policy explains what ffwhat.ai ("we", "us") does and does not collect when you use this site. The short version: no accounts, no cookies, no analytics, no stored IP addresses. The longer version follows.
Who runs this site
ffwhat.ai is operated by ffwhat.ai, based in the United States. For any privacy question or request, contact webmaster@ffwhat.ai.
What we don't do
We set no cookies and use no analytics — not Google Analytics, not Plausible, not Cloudflare, nothing. There is no account, no sign-in, and no tracking pixel. We do not sell or share data with advertisers.
Your network address
We do not store your IP address. To enforce per-visitor abuse limits we derive a non-reversible identifier from your network address using HMAC-SHA256 with a server-side secret, then discard the address itself. Even if someone obtained our database, they could not work backward from the stored identifiers to an IP address. The legal basis for this processing is our legitimate interest in preventing abuse and controlling cost.
Your files
Files you drag in stay in your browser. Only their file extensions (for
example, .mov or .mp4) are sent to our servers;
filenames and file contents are never transmitted or stored. Your
platform preference (Linux, Mac, Windows, etc.) is remembered in your
browser's local storage so you don't have to pick it again; this
preference is never sent to our servers.
Your request text, and who processes it
The plain-English request you type is sent to our server and then forwarded to Google (Google's Gemini API), which generates the FFmpeg command. Google processes that text as a sub-processor under its own terms. Please do not put personal or sensitive information in your request — there is no need to, and it leaves your browser the moment you submit.
What we log, and for how long
When a request successfully produces a command, we log the request text and the command we returned, keyed to the non-reversible identifier described above. Requests that are rejected, rate-limited, or fail are not added to this log. Because filenames are stripped before they reach us, this log is not intended to contain personal data — but, as above, it can only be free of personal data if you keep it out of your request.
We retain these successful-translation logs to analyze and improve the Service. You may ask us to delete logs associated with you; see below.
Sub-processors
- Google LLC — Gemini API, processes your request text to generate commands.
- Akamai Technologies, Inc. (Linode) — hosts the application and database in the United States.
Your rights
Because we do not hold accounts or IP addresses, we usually cannot identify which logged rows belong to a specific person. If you can supply enough detail to identify your requests (for example, the approximate time and the exact text), you may ask us to access or delete them by emailing webmaster@ffwhat.ai. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under the GDPR (EU/UK visitors) or the CCPA/CPRA (California residents); we will honor valid requests under those laws.
Children
This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and the "last updated" date above.
